About Patricio

Patricio V. Marquez is a former World Bank Group (WBG) Lead Public Health Specialist. He retired in August 2019 after 32 years of service working in over 80 countries. In March 2020, he was invited to return to the WBG as Consultant to support preparation and implementation of US$6 billion COVID-19 Global Emergency Response Program and US$12 billion Additional Financing for Vaccines and Vaccination. He co-authored “Better Together: A Mental Health and Wellbeing Strategy for the World Bank Group”, launched on May 4th, 2022.  

Over 2022-2023, he contributed to preparation of case studies for the Global Knowledge Series “Essential Public Health Services and the Monitoring of the Safety in the Use of Medicines.”  On 2023-2024, he served as Adviser for implementation of WBG’s Mental Health and Wellbeing Strategy, and co-led preparation of concept note for Global Road Safety Facility’s “Post-Crash Care for Traffic Injuries” Analytics Services and Advisory Program. 

He serves as Honorary Professor, The University of the West Indies’ Center for Health Economics, elected governing member of the Charles Darwin Foundation for Conservation of the Galapagos Islands, Ecuador, and Senior Associate, Johns Hopkins University Bloomberg School of Public Health. He served in the External Advisory Board for the University of Washington Consortium for Global Mental Health, the Tobacco Free Portfolios Pledge initiative, and in the International Advisory Committee for the World Non-Communicable Diseases (NCD) Conference held in Toronto, Canada in June 2023. 

He is originally from Cuenca, Ecuador.
